Description

The course has limited capacity, early registration is strongly recommended to guarantee a spot in the course.

Musculosketal Ultrasound (MSK US) is a cutting-edge procedure being utilized to diagnose and treat a multitude of musculosketetal disorders at the point of care. This practical, hands-on course will cover through prerecorded scanning videos and lectures the most important aspects of MSK US, including step-by-step instruction for diagnostic ultrasound and guided procedures; those pre-course materials will be available for self-study and preparation for two weeks prior to the in-person part of the course. The two-day, hands-on part of the course will include practice sessions with live models and patients, and advanced procedural applications on cadaver joints. Learners of all levels will receive individualized invaluable training on MSK US utilization and techniques in the upper and lower extremities as well as and indications in pediatrics, physiatry and sport medicine.

Course highlights include:

Focused didactic lectures and scanning videos about how to scan each joint in detail.

  • Evidence-based, ultrasound-guided procedures and techniques.
  • Indications for MSK US in pediatrics and the relevant nuances in that population.
  • MSK US indications and techniques for nerve imaging.
  • MSK US utilization and indications in sport medicine.
  • Practical sessions about billing and certification in MSK US.
  • Hands-on sessions to apply the knowledge learned in the lectures to scan the basic views of all joints including shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, foot and ankle.
  • Hands on training on MSK US guided injections on cadaver joints including but not limited to intraarticular glenohumeral, hip, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle, foot and hand.

The prerecorded videos and lectures for the purpose of self study prior to the course will prepare you to benefit the most form this course. You will apply the knowledge learned to scan each joint on the first day of the course, rotating through eight stations 55 min each, on models and patients with joints and soft tissue pathologies that will help enrich your knowledge to recognize those abnormal findings in your own practice. Furthermore, this is one of the best opportunities to provide a comprehensive training for MSK US guided procedures. The cadaver injection hand on training sessions will span over six hours. All registrants will rotate on all four stations, 90 minutes each. An expert instructor on each station will help the participants performing MSK US guided procedures on cadaver joints. The stations will cover all joints: shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, foot and ankle. This will be a great occasion to learn those skills and become comfortable in performing those procedures, or improve on your current skills. The ratio of attendees to instructor in each group will be four to one.
